WELLER ANCESTORS

This surname can also be found spelled as- Webber,Webler and Wellen. The great-grandparents of Hieronymus Weller’s grandfather, Johann(3) Hieronymus [Hiram] Weller was baptized at Burbach,Germany, on 11 May 1684. He was married, at Burbach, on 2 January 1707 to Anna Juliana (Juliano) Kunz (Cons). She was baptized on 16 February 1679 as the daughter of Jacob and Anna Catharina Kunz. Jacob Kunz was born in 1654 and was the son of Gerhard Kunz and Anna Catharina Heyl. Catharina was baptized on 1 June 1656 as the daughter of Friedrich Heyl and Catharine. Jacob died on 11 February 1709. Gerhard Kunz was buried on 2 July 1673.

Johann Hieronymus Weller was one of the original Palatines, who arrived at New York on Christmas Day in 1709. Johann Hieronymus was on the Hunter's Subsistance Lists of 1 July 1710, 4 October 1710, 31 December 1710 and 24 June 1711. He and his family were living at West Camp (on the west side of the Hudson River at Ulster County, N.Y.) during 1710 and 1711. He was naturalized, along with others, in a court held at Kingston, N.Y. on 9 September 1715. On 6 March 1716, Johann Hieronymus was deeded land in an area northwest of Kingston, known as Churchland or Beaver Kill. The Simmendinger Census of 1717, lists Johann Heironymus,Anna and their two children as living at Beckmansland (Ulster Co.). In 1720 and 1728, he was on the tax list of Shawangunk (Ulster Co.) as a Freeholder there. Historians also indicate that a Jeronomous" Weller was one of the first settlers at the Schuyler Patent (vacinity of Montgomery County, N.Y.). Johann Hieronimus Weller remarried sometime before 1747, when he and his wife "Anna Maria Homfin" were witnesses to a baptism, in February 1747, in the Dutch Reformed Church at New York City. PITCHER FAMILY

There is very limited information about the early Pitchers that I [N.H. Greene] could locate at this time. The surname is an anglicization of the German name - Bester, Betger, Betjer, Bettjer, Betzer, Boetger, Bottger, or Bottiches. The first Pitcher that I could tie our family into was - Conrad(1) Pitcher, who was born about 1791 at Dutchess County, New York. This may be the same Johannes Conrad Bitzer, who was baptized on 10 April 1791 at the German Reformed Church of Germantown, Columbia County, N.Y., as the son of Petrus Bitzer and Elizabeth Mohr. Also, baptized in this same church to these parents were - Elisabeth on 20 August 1786 and Phillip on 2 November 1788.

Conrad Pitcher was married on 11 May 1815 at the St. Paul's Lutheran Church  at Schoharie, New York to Elizabeth Borst.
